The Basic Sensory Mind
In the earliest days of human existence, we evolved from the vision-based world of animals in which the concepts of “self” and “group” were fundamental to who we were as beings. As we developed speech ability, the speech-based cognition was mapped on top of the already existent and strongly embedded vision based concepts of “self” and “group”. As developed previously, the left brain correlate of “self” is what we refer to as “ego”, and the left brain correlate of “group” is “group thoughts” as diagramed in the Figure. This figure serves as the fundamental structural base for the Sensory Mind.

Figure. The fundamental sense of “group” within a species comes from the vision-based cognitive world that existed before humans. Just as “ego” is a speech-based overlay on the sense of “self”, “group thoughts” is a speech-based overlay on the sense of “group”. “Group thoughts” are what has enabled humans to work so effectively with one another and to build civilizations. This diagram serves as the base for the Sensory Mind.
