Our consciousness
Each of us has a consciousness that comes from our mind. Our entire life is experienced by our consciousness. Therefore, we effectively ARE our consciousness. Our consciousness, as discussed earlier, is comprised of our wordless feelings and emotions that come to us from the right brain sense of “self” and also from our word-based left-brain and thinking Ego that was added when we developed speech.

Figure. Our consciousness is the means by which we experience life. We each have an individual consciousness that is a combination of our right brain sense of “self” and our Ego that is the thinking left-brain correlate. The Ego generally overwhelms our right brain consciousness. The behavior motivators that come from the right brain and left brain (needs and desires respectively) are different and related to the respective survival and success objectives of the vision and speech based mind components.
The history of our species is, essentially, the history of the development of our left brain….and it has become highly developed. Related to that success, our Ego dominates our consciousness and who we think and believe we are as an individual. Many of us are even unable to introspectively appreciate the right brain contribution to consciousness. Many previous writers and scholars don’t even include the right brain sense of “self” as part of our consciousness, relegating its contributions to our consciousness and self as “unconscious”. However, the position taken here is that the wordless emotions and feelings that come to us from the right brain are a strong part of our consciousness and who we are as a person.
The deeply embedded objective of our right brain is survival. However, our left brain has enabled us to conquer all other life on the planet. The objective of our left brain can be characterized as “success” – a concept to be developed further later. As result, our behavior motivators from the right and left brain are different. “Needs” come from our right brain; whereas “Desires” come from our left brain.
